Award-winning composer Sabrina Pena Young is a foremost expert on Virtual Opera Production and Music Technology. ABOUT THE PROJECT
Alicia
and the White Rabbit is a children's opera that modernizes a familiar tale,
combining traditional opera with a distinct Latino flavor. It will be presented
in a series of opera workshops and presentations, preferably to low income
communities, schools, and local music organizations like Sigma Alpha Iota. As
part of the educational goals for Alicia and the White Rabbit, free sheet music
downloads, an interactive website, children’s book with album, songbook,
educational workbook, video documentation, and live school workshops will be
available. These materials will serve several purposes: showcasing Alicia and
the White Rabbit and creating a way for young people to interact with the
opera, perform the opera, and explore opera using media technology. Live opera
workshops where the opera will be played in part or in whole, accompanied by a
lecture and interactive question and answer sessions are part of the end goal
for this project. A children’s book and album, detailing the opera synopsis,
information about opera, and student level sheet music, will be part of the
educational materials. The interactive website will allow students to find out
more about Alicia and the characters as well as enjoy the music from the opera and
download free sheet music arranged for student musicians. A test site currently
